Making lycopene bioavailable

 
A key challenge for ATERONON™ was to demonstrate that it helps the body to absorb effective levels of the antioxidant, lycopene.

In trials, ATERONON™ doubled levels of lycopene in the blood of volunteers after only a 2 week period. ATERONON™ is the only supplement that has been clinically proven to help the body to absorb lycopene to a level known to achieve health benefits.

Reducing the oxidation of LDL cholesterol

 
Having achieved high levels of lycopene absorption in the body, ATERONON™ was next trailed to understand the bio-chemical impact that this powerful antioxidant could have on the body.

In trials, ATERONON™ was shown to typically inhibit the oxidation of LDL cholesterol by more than 90% after two months of daily use.

When LDL cholesterol is oxidised, it contributes to the build-up of plaque in our arteries, creating a narrower space for our blood to pass through and leading to increased risk of heart attack, stroke and other circulatory conditions.

The process of plaque build-up (or atherosclerosis) in our arteries typically starts from around 18 years of age and is influenced by a number of factors, such as diet and level of exercise.   One method to tackle this problem is cholesterol-lowering medication, which works by reducing the amount of LDL cholesterol present in the bloodstream.

One possible problem with this approach is that half of all heart attacks and three-quarters of all strokes occur in people that do not have elevated levels of cholesterol.  Even with normal or lower than average levels of cholesterol, if LDL cholesterol is being oxidised aggressively, this can still lead to higher risks of health problems.
